As every year, Pantone has once again chosen a colour world for 2018 that will shape the fashion, interior and, of course, beauty industries this year. It is and now the spirits of good taste are divided: purple! ULTRA VIOLET to be precise!
"The thoughtful and dramatically provocative purple shade Ultra Violet expresses originality, ingenuity and forward-thinking visionary thinking. Complex and contemplative, Ultra Violet alludes to the mysteries of the cosmos, the fascination of the future and discoveries beyond current knowledge. The infinitely wide night sky symbolises what is possible and what is possible - it always awakens the longing to enter new worlds.
Dark purple tones have long been a sign of counterculture, non-conformity and artistic brilliance. With Prince, David Bowie and Jimi Hendrix, icons of music history moved various shades of Ultra Violet to the centre of Western pop culture as a personal expression of individuality. With nuance and a wealth of emotion, the depth of Ultra Violet symbolises experimentation and unconventionality. The colour encourages us to imagine our own design of the world and to overcome boundaries with creativity.
Historically, Ultra Violet has been attributed a mystical or spiritual power. The colour is often associated with mindfulness practices that provide an overarching perspective in today's stimulus-rich world. Purple lighting in meditation rooms or other gathering places energises those present and encourages connection," says Laurie Pressman, vice president of the Pantone Color Institute.
I have to admit, I'm not the biggest fan and was a little disappointed at first. However, there are one or two shades of purple that look quite fresh and sexy on the nails, a very dark purple for example, like our Zoé.
