As every year, Pantone has once again chosen a world of colours for 2018, which will shape the fashion, interior design and, of course, the beauty industry this year. It is and now the spirits of good taste divide: purple! Specifically, ULTRA VIOLET!
"The well thought-out and dramatically provocative Lilaton Ultra Violet expresses originality, ingenuity and visionary thinking. Complex and contemplative - Ultra Violet alludes to the mysteries of the cosmos, the fascination of the future and the discoveries beyond today's knowledge. The infinitely wide night sky symbolizes the feasible and the possibilities - it awakens again and again the longing to enter new worlds.
Dark shades of lilac have long since been a sign of counterculture, inappropriateness and artistic brilliance. With Prince, David Bowie and Jimi Hendrix, icons of music history brought different tones of Ultra Violet as a personal expression of individuality to the centre of Western pop culture. With nuances and a wealth of emotions, the depth of Ultra Violet symbolizes experimentation and unconventionalism. The colour encourages us to imagine our own design of the world and to overcome limits with creativity.
Historically Ultra Violet has been attributed a mystical or spiritual power. The colour is often associated with mindfulness practices that open up a superior perspective in today's world, which is rich in stimuli. Purple lighting in meditation rooms or other meeting places gives new energy to those present and promotes the development of connections," says Laurie Pressman, Vice President of the Pantone Color Institute.
I have to admit I'm not the biggest fan and was a bit disappointed at first. However, there are some purple shades that comes along on the nails quite fresh and sexy, a very dark purple for example like our Zoé.
